1. Definitions and Introduction
This document governs your use of the Obscurau software, API, and website. "We," "us," and "Obscurau Ltd" refer to the company providing the service. "You" refers to the user creating an account or submitting code for obfuscation. By accessing Obscurau, you accept these terms in full. If you disagree, you must stop using the service immediately.
2. Service Limitations
We provide code protection tools for the Lua and Luau programming languages. Our software converts your human-readable source code into a bytecode format running on our proprietary virtual machine.
We test our virtual machine against standard Lua 5.1 and Luau environments. However, we do not guarantee compatibility with custom C-side environments, heavily modified game engines, or future language specifications. You are responsible for testing your obfuscated output in your specific target environment before distributing it.
3. Account Obligations
You must register with a valid email address. You must not share your account credentials with anyone else, and you may not resell API access. If you suspect someone has compromised your account, you must notify us at help@obscurau.net within 24 hours.
We reserve the right to suspend accounts that trigger our automated abuse filters, such as generating thousands of failed login attempts or submitting excessively large files that crash the compiler.
4. Prohibited Uses
You must not use Obscurau to process code that violates the law or causes harm. Specifically, you agree not to obfuscate:
- Malware, ransomware, spyware, or command-and-control software.
- Scripts designed to exploit vulnerabilities in video games, server infrastructure, or personal computers.
- Code that facilitates unauthorized access to private data.
If we find you violating this rule, we will permanently ban your account and, if required by a court order, share your account details with law enforcement.
5. Billing and Subscriptions
We offer two billing methods: pay-as-you-go tokens and monthly subscriptions.
Tokens: Tokens are consumed per obfuscation job. We do not provide refunds for unused tokens, account bans, or accidental submissions.
Subscriptions: When you purchase a subscription plan (e.g., Basic, Premium, Commercial), you gain access to the features included in that tier for 30 days. If you repurchase the exact same plan before it expires, we add 30 days to your current expiration date.
Upgrades and Downgrades: If you purchase a different plan while you already have an active subscription, the new plan replaces your current one immediately. Your new expiration date resets to 30 days from the moment of purchase. You forfeit any remaining time from your previous plan. We do not prorate costs or refund the difference.
6. Warranty Disclaimer
We provide the Obscurau service "as is." We do not guarantee that your code is completely safe from reverse engineering. While our obfuscation increases the time and skill required to analyze your code, a determined and highly skilled analyst can eventually reverse any software protection. Do not rely solely on obfuscation to secure sensitive secrets, API keys, or private databases.
7. Limitation of Liability
Obscurau Ltd is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages resulting from your use of the service. If your obfuscated code causes performance issues, crashes your application, or results in lost revenue, we will not compensate you. Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these terms is limited to the amount you paid us in the three months preceding the claim.
8. Amendments
We may modify these terms as our product changes or as the law requires. We will email all active users 14 days before a major change takes effect. If you continue using the service after the changes go live, you accept the updated terms.
